Selene uncovers the terrifying truth that her reality is nothing more than a TV show and she is not in control. Can she ever truly escape to a reality where she’s the one calling the shots?

Selene is the star of a wholesome family sitcom, unknowingly living a scripted life. When she discovers a script predicting her conversations and sees her brother recast without question, she begins to unravel the truth-her world is controlled by unseen men, including her boyfriend, Kristoff, the show’s head writer. Trapped in a manufactured existence, she chooses rebellion, violently breaking free and killing the head writer. But as police sirens close in, one question remains—can she ever truly escape?

With Perfectly Selene, I wanted to create a film that feels honest. This story reflects the quiet moments we don’t show the world — the doubts, the pressure, and the search for who we truly are beneath expectations.
Producing this project allowed me to translate feelings I’ve lived with into something visual and meaningful. Selene’s journey is not just a character arc — it’s a reflection of the inner conversations many young women have but never voice.
My intention was simple: to create a film that feels real, relatable, and gently revealing.

Film Stills

My goal as a director and writer of this film was to bring attention to the struggles of women. They may not be obvious to everyone but when you see it your world will never be the same. I wanted the audience to feel both empathy and discomfort, to recognise fragments of their own lives, especially our female identifying women. The horror of Perfectly Selene is not the blood or violence but the quiet terror of realising your choice have been written for you by the media and by society. This film is a love letter to self-awareness and resistance. Selene’s story is my statement as a director: that women deserve to be the authors of their own narratives which can be flawed, messy, unscripted and entirely their own.
-Claire Callaghan
As a director I want to ensure that all women feel seen and heard through my work. I want to be the voice that projects for all the people who feel like they are silenced, or who feel like their cries are to no avail. As a filmmaker I believe that it is our duty to use our platform to speak about the right things. In the current sociopolitical climate of our country, it is now more crucial than ever for us, especially as female writers and directors, to create works that reflect the experiences of real women during this current femicide. Perfectly Selene is a stepping stone for us and a clear statement that we are unapologetic, raging feminist and Perfectly Selene depicts the collective rage of all women in this country and across the world.
